Dry skin during summer? Here's how you can prevent it

For most people, summer is synonymous with oilier skin. Temperatures rise, as does the humidity in the air. Our glands work overtime, leading to unwanted shine and greasy skin. However, people with dry skin have a slightly different summer experience. In high temperatures, dry skin becomes even drier, with coarseness, peeling, and itchiness.


High temperatures and exposure to the sun's rays lead to what's called transepidermal moisture loss. Basically, it's a process where water evaporates through the skin into the air, resulting in dehydrated skin. That's why – if you have dry skin – you need to adapt to summer conditions and give your skin extra care.


First of all, we highly recommend that you stick to a thorough cleansing, toning, and moisturizing routine. We'd also suggest that you apply your sunscreen daily. This will protect your skin from UV rays, which can also cause dryness.


A hydrating serum is also a great idea. If you incorporate it into your routine, it will simply add an extra layer of moisture and nourishment. Also, once or twice a week you should use a face mask - it will deeply rehydrate your skin, and that's exactly what you want.


Additionally, there are other measures you can take to protect your dry skin in summer. Avoid hot showers as they can strip your skin of moisture. When it comes to makeup, avoid products that can dry out your skin, and choose the ones that can provide you with some extra hydration.
