5 Tips for Skin Care After (Excessive) Sun Exposure

Even though we avoid sun exposure during the hottest parts of the day, stay in the shade, and apply products with SPF, sometimes we still get sunburned or our skin becomes extremely dry from the sun. When this happens, it's crucial to know how to react. After excessive sun exposure, your skin needs care, and you'll provide the best care by following these 5 steps:

1. Take a cool shower. Cool water will cool the skin and calm the inflammation. Use a gentle sponge, and for drying, use a soft towel to gently pat your skin dry (avoid rubbing with the towel).

2. Hydrate your skin as soon as possible, ideally right after sun exposure. Apply moisturizer to your face, ears, neck, and all other parts of the body that were exposed to the sun (shoulders, torso, legs, feet…).

3. Use skincare products that contain aloe vera. Clinical studies have shown that aloe vera speeds up healing and reduces the pain of sunburn.

4. Avoid products that can further dry out or irritate your skin.

5. Drink plenty of water.
